PFAS analysis in EPA method 533 uses analytical column C18, 2x50mm, 3um or equivalent.  EPA method 537.1 uses analytical column C18, 2.1x150mm, 5um or equivalent.  EPA is flexible about column. Any column that provides adequate resolution, peak shape, capacity, accuracy, and precision can be used.  Here a selection of C18 columns and AQ-C18 columns are suitable for the applications. 

Welch Ultisil XB-C18 and AQ-C18 Columns, 3um, 2.1x150mm

  •  XB-C18 column is the most used column. It is produced with high purity porous silica and end-capping technique to ensure inertness on the silica surface to achieve high theoretical plates and peak capacity.
  • Ultisil AQ-C18 columns are designed to have extended retention and selectivity of hydrophilic and polar compounds.  Through a special bonding chemistry, it avoids so-called “phase collapse” even when 100% aqueous solution is used. It is the best choice for mobile phase that contains <20% organic content.
